In 1906, Shanghai Taifeng Company established China's first canning factory. Subsequently, some canning factories were also established in coastal provinces. After liberation, the annual production of canned food in China doubled, and the current national production is equivalent to 200 times the canned food production in 1950. Nowadays, canned food production has basically achieved continuous and mechanized product production. There are over 300 varieties of canned goods, and the quality of canned goods has greatly improved. Canned products such as green beans, mushrooms, and luncheon meat are recognized as first-class products in the international market. Most of China's canned food is sold to over 100 countries and regions including Europe, Japan, Canada, Hong Kong, and Macau.
The distribution of canned food industry in China is mostly concentrated in large and medium-sized cities. Among them, the canned fish industry, in addition to Shanghai as a concentrated production area, also includes Nanjing, Shantou, Guangzhou, Qingdao, Dalian, Chongqing and other places. The canned fruit and vegetable industry is mainly distributed in Shantou, Guangzhou, Haikou, Xiamen, Fuzhou, Shanghai, Dalian, Chongqing, Chengdu and other places.
