In 1959, ERNIE C. Fraze of DRT Corporation in Dayton, Ohio, invented the easy to pull lid, which is made by processing the material of the can lid itself into a rivet, wrapping it with a pull ring and then riveting it, and matching it with appropriate scratches to form a complete can lid.
The invention of genius led to a historic breakthrough in metal containers after 150 years of long development. At the same time, it also laid a solid foundation for the development of canning and beverage industries. After entering the 1990s, the supply and demand sides of the North American easy to pull lid market continued to expand, and by the end of the 1990s, the supply and demand tended to stabilize, with a relatively slow growth rate.
Until 2013, there were a total of 169 easy to pull lid production lines in North America, with an average speed of 1522 cans/min. The annual total production capacity was about 109 billion pieces, and the market demand was about 107 billion pieces. It is predicted that by 2004, after the survival of the fittest, the number of can production lines will decrease to about 157, and the production line speed will increase by 1630 cans/min.
